R tutorials

GIS in R - Geographic Information Science (or systems, or software) is a rapidly evolving and useful field, with particular relevance to ecology. Here I run through the basics of getting spatial data imported to R and producing a basic interactive map. I also briefly cover suitable projections for New Zealand data and how to re-project these.

Freshwater fish distribution [beta] - A tool for exploring the altitudinal and longitudinal distribution of freshwater fish in NZ. Querys NIWA’s freshwater fish database for fish occurence records and MFE’s river environment classification for additional information on stream reaches. Importantly this tool compares the distribution of a selected species (yellow line) to the distribution of all species (black line). Still in development (e.g. missing legend, etc.). Produced in Shiny.
